Port Start: Introduction to Port and Stevedoring Operations
(Micro-credential) (Level 3)
The purpose of this micro-credential is to provide current workers and those seeking to join the port and stevedoring industry with essential knowledge, familiarity, and readiness for various roles and tasks within port and stevedoring operations. Graduates will demonstrate an understanding of key areas within the port and stevedoring sectors, including the realities, opportunities and challenges of working in this industry.

Entry Requirements
Prospective learners must
- be employed or have access to a port operations environment.
- be 16 years or older.
- be a NZ Citizen or Permanent Resident
- be physically fit to undertake learning and assessment required by each unit component
- Have support from an employer to complete the micro-credential and its associated trainingand assessment in the workplace
Outcomes
Following successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Describe port and stevedoring operations in terms of its structure, activities,
characteristics and environmental impact.
- Identify and explain various factors influencing a worker's ability to perform tasks and work safely in port operations.
- Describe the impacts of shift work as part of port and stevedoring work and create
strategies to manage them
- Apply the principles of workplace safety and safe working practices in a port
environment.
Pathways
This micro-credential will provide learners with introductory knowledge and skills,
preparing them to start their careers in entry-level roles within the port and stevedoring
industry.
Furthermore, this micro-credential offers a pathway towards the New Zealand
Certificate in Port Operations (Level 3) programme
