Safe Start in Stevedoring and Port Operations
(Micro-credential) (Level 3) 

The purpose of this micro-credential is to equip current workers and those aiming to enter the port and stevedoring industry with the necessary knowledge and competence to work safely in various port operations. Graduates will be able to demonstrate knowledge of factors impacting their wellbeing, work performance and safety. The port industry will benefit from having employees furthering a safety-conscious workforce within the port and stevedoring sectors in New Zealand.

Entry Requirements

Prospective learners must

- be employed or have access to a port operations environment.

- be 16 years or older. 

- be a NZ Citizen or Permanent Resident

- be physically fit to undertake learning and assessment required by each unit component

- Have support from an employer to complete the micro-credential and its associated trainingand assessment in the workplace

Outcomes

Following successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:


- Demonstrate understanding of the port and stevedoring sector by identifying and
describing its characteristics, operations and environmental impact


- Identify and describe the key factors that impact worker performance in a port operations environment


- Identify, describe and apply workplace safety principles relevant to port and stevedoring
operations
