Vessel Mooring Skills
(Micro-credential) (Level 3)
This micro-credential is designed to equip learners with essential skills to contribute towards effective and efficient wharfside port mooring operations. This includes competencies in health and safety risk assessments, wharfside mooring and unmooring standards and practices, and the use of radio communication devices to support these activities. These skills will enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness, benefiting the industry through improved safety, performance and reduced operational delays.

Entry Requirements
Prospective learners must
- be employed or have access to a port operations environment.
- be 16 years or older.
- be a NZ Citizen or Permanent Resident
- be physically fit to undertake learning and assessment required by each unit component
- Have support from an employer to complete the micro-credential and its associated trainingand assessment in the workplace
Outcomes
Following successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Conduct health and safety risk assessment to a vessel mooring related job role
- Apply principles of safe and effective wharfside port and stevedoring tasks.
- Apply appropriate radio communication protocols to support wharfside vessel mooring
operations
Pathways
Learners who finish this course will be able to perform operational roles that support wharfside port mooring operations.
Furthermore, this micro-credential offers a pathway towards the New Zealand Certificate in Port Operations (Level 3) programme
