Entry Requirements
Prospective learners must
- be employed or have access to a port operations environment.
- be 16 years or older.
- be a NZ Citizen or Permanent Resident
- be physically fit to undertake learning and assessment required by each unit component
- Have support from an employer to complete the micro-credential and its associated trainingand assessment in the workplace
Outcomes
Following successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Explain faults, machine isolation and pre-start procedures required when operating
heavy port machinery.
- Identify and explain procedures and protocols required to safely operate heavy port machineries
- Describe factors that impact the safe operation of heavy port machineries
- Perform start up, operation, shut down, and operator maintenance checks for heavy
port machinery in accordance with operational procedures and industry practice.

to operate heavy machinery required for various roles across the port, stevedoring, and
